Real estate: December home sales surge in Wisconsin despite declining affordability


Median home prices reach record levels; affordability challenges persist

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin’s housing market ended 2024 on a high note, with December sales marking the strongest closing month since 2021, according to a report released Thursday by the Wisconsin REALTORS® Association (WRA).

Despite a tight inventory and affordability challenges, the market saw substantial growth in both sales volume and home prices.

Existing home sales in December 2024 jumped 9.2% compared to the same month in 2023, while the median price climbed 13%, reaching $305,000. These numbers capped a year where overall home sales rose 4.7%, and the median home price increased 8.8% to $310,000...
